Well, I realized I had never introduced myself or told you why I started this blog. So I decided to get this taken care of! My name is Wil Clark. I am a sophomore at Maranatha Baptist Bible College. This semester was a tough one. I found myself working at Subway alot, and trying to do homework, manage relationships, and do well in my classes.

I wanted to start a time management blog, because I had minimal free time, and when I did, I would not use it wisely!
I think the advice I would give right now, for you all struggling getting stuff done, and being overwhelmingly busy in life is, to never push the Lord off the schedule. Maintaining this relationship is vital, and we can never give Satan a foot hold, but rather always seek to get to know God better, whenever, wherever, and however we can.

One of the Bible verses that I fall back to when I get overwhelmed, is Philippians 3: 14, "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Oft times it seems like a phase in life will never end. When this happens, we as Christians must rely on our faith in Christ, and our confidence and trust in God, to get us through. We are here to glorify God, we must never focus on ourselves when we get overwhelmed, but focus on serving our Savior.

Q. Are good time management skills a responsibility of a christian?

A. YES! And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Colossians 3: 23, Also the ant spoken of in Proverbs 6:6, The ant works hard, and is unsupervised.

Q. What scripture verses could you mention about being responsible with time?

A. Psalm 90: 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Also Ephesians 5: 15-16, which says See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Q.Attending Church in some Christians eyes, is one thing that can be pushed off the schedule if in a crunch. as a Pastor, how would you respond to that?

A. There are times when a Christian is unable to attend church, however it should not become a norm, or a pattern. If a Christian does not have time to attend church regularly he is to busy. One must set priorities, and as Christians, the Lord needs to be at the top of that list.

Q. Do any specific Bible Stories come to mind about responsibilty with time, or using time wisely?

A.
Positive: Paul wrote epistles to churches when he was in prison, Paul did not simply say, well what am I supposed to do? I am in prison? He did the exact opposite and utilized his time, for the Lord. Also, reading about the life of Christ, He and the disciples, worked and ministered very long days. Amongst this hard work, Christ would oft times tell his disciples to rest.
Negative: Exodus 32, when Moses was gone, the Israelite's used there time unwisely, and strayed from God. If they would have used the time wisely instead of selfishly, they never would have gone through the golden calf incident, which cost them dearly!

Q. Do you have any tips or advice for those who struggle with time management?

A. My advice would be to take a week or two and journal their time, keep a notebook, and journal your time, and evaluate after a 2 week period, then overview and see where changes need to be made. If people struggling with weight start writing down all that they are eating, they will take more notice to what they are eating and make necessary changes. Also, avoid unnecessary interruptions, emails, news, face-book. Recognize unimportant time-wasters

Phone Smarts

CELL PHONES- Cell phones can greatly help or greatly hinder your problem with time management. There are many groups in this field that could be talked about, but I will address the two extremes. In group one individuals spend literally hours of a day texting or calling friends, and surfing the Internet on their phone. In group two, you have people who use their phones capabilities to optimize their time.I commend those that take advantage of applications and programs on their phone to keep organized, to those on the other group. Here are some tips to help you take advantage of your phones capabilities.

I. Avoid Idle Chatter- Limit how many texts you send that are not necessary or useful! If you are a severe texting addict and feel the need to stop, call your phone company and ask them to bump your texting down to the minimum texting plan. If you are really addicted to it, ask about blocking texts after a certain number!

II. Limit Time Per Phone Call- Set a realistic number of minutes in which you will cut off a phone call! It is not necessary to talk to your friend for 40 minutes about his girlfriends sisters cousins cat! If you are talking with a coworker or fellow business man, do not go on rabbit trails, stay right on point, without being impolite of course!

III. Take Advantage of Calendar and Alarms- Your phone most likely has a built in calendar or scheduler of some sort, USE IT! Set aside some time to open up your calendar and explore it, you will find it easy to put in your work schedule, your key events, and all other items you need to keep organized! Utilize reminders, notifications, and alarms to increase your ability to stick to a schedule. So when your on Face-book, and your phone starts ringing, you open it up and find, oh wow, I forgot about that! I have a biology quiz tomorrow, you will be able to shut down and study for your quiz. Using a scheduler on your phone will not only help you stay organized and save time, but it will also help you to remember things that you might have forgotten!
William Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13288732964747157175noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830026880584557869.post-28873298822201076032010-11-12T08:47:00.000-08:002010-12-09T10:07:10.078-08:00Internet Junkie???For those people who waste countless hours on the internet, here is a quick video to watch, that introduces you to a tool that can save you time online, instead of eating your time! I would highly recommend using either the template I linked to in my previous post "Write" or a dry-erase board. For the simple convenience of being able to edit them. So each week you can write down the essentials and then the other things you need to get done. Now once this schedule is composed, it does you absolutely no good, unless you actually follow it! Yes its hard, but in the long run you will be thankful you did.

The other major issue here is work ethic. Some people struggle with managing time because they are plain lazy. As someone who struggles with time management, you need to figure out if you truly want to get organized and disciplined and focused enough to really buckle down and follow the schedule you created. You must remember though if you are supposed to be writing a paper, and you are sitting in front of your computer staring at your sources or sneaking onto face-book, without actually writing your paper, you are still wasting valuable time, and at that point you might as well throw your schedule out the window. The goal of this schedule is not necessarily to get you to do the same monotonous thing every day, but it is to help you realize how much time you really do have!
Start with the mandatory things of your day, like work, school, practices, and other events that you cannot miss. Then start writing the smaller things out, such as, meals, naps, homework, and you can even put down face-book, and video games! Because with this list we are going to prioritize, and organize! And remember doing these two things are not going to knock out all of the fun things you do, but hopefully will make more time in your day.
So now that we have a list of events and activities of your day. We need to establish which things are your priority. Obviously, the mandatory issues which were discussed above, are going to be at the top of your priorities. Other priority events might be, Church, devotions, homework, family time, friend time, the list goes on, but looking at your paper, circle or highlight the things which are most important for yourself and those closest to you.Now that you have your priorities down, you will need to get some type of weekly scheduler. Here is a schedule that you can download as a word template, Weekly Schedule, which you will be able to change every week. If you do not want to mess with a word document, another idea would be to just buy a planner, with daily hour slots, or simply buy a white board, and have a schedule you can always erase and change. Next post we will look at the importance of maintaining a weekly schedule and also introduce the next idea to save you time!William Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13288732964747157175noreply@blogger.com0
